The Democratic Republic of the Congo (French: République démocratique du Congo), known until 1997 as Zaire, is a country located in Central Africa, with a small length of Atlantic coastline. It is the third largest country (by area) in Africa. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is, with the population more than 68 million, the eighteenth most populous nation in the world, and the fourth most populous nation in Africa, as well as the most populous country where French is an official language.

The first stake in the Republic of Congo, the Brazzaville Republic of Congo Stake, was organized on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, under the direction of Elder Steven E. Snow of the Seventy and president of the Africa Southeast Area and Elder Christoffel Golden Jr., of the Seventy and first counselor in the area presidency.

The mission was created in 1987.
